And the losing continues...

On Wednesday, the Pittsburgh Pirates lost to the St. Louis Cardinals 3-2 which handed them their 82nd loss this season.  This is now the teams 19th losing season in a row spanning from 1993-2011 and making them the most winningless team in sports history.  The season gave some hope to Pirate fans with getting over the .500 mark by seven games at one point and even sharing first place in the NL Central in July.  But after their 19 inning lost to the Atlanta Braves the Pirates were 14-35.  Was it that loss that took some momentum or just the team running out of gas?  Needless to say this years Pirates brought back hope for baseball fans in Pittsburgh with the new talent and manager.  Maybe just maybe next year is their year to break the losing streak and to clinch a spot in the playoffs.

  1. No matter what, the Pirates will be my team. The year was promising with Clint Hurdle as the new manager, and he made the team a contender in July. However, it takes more than one year for a team to get back on track, but I think that Clint will lead our team in the right direction and we will continue to see progress. Let's go BUCS! :)

  2. I was shocked when the Pirates started the season off so well this year and thought they were actually going to go far. I think that if they build off of the momentum they had in the first half of the season, they can definitely go far in the upcoming years. They need to rebuild their roster and I think they can be a true contender in the next 5 years or so. The Pirates will get their groove back eventually, it is just going to take a lot of time. I'm excited to keep up on their progress and see how they do with the rest of the season and the following ones as well.

  3. The hype surrounding the Pirates through the first 100 games when they were 53-47 was awesome. I definitely think the 19 inning loss to the Braves effected them, but not to the extent that they go 15-38 since. This season is all but over but I certainly am looking forward to next year and watching our young players continue to improve and lead this team to a winning season.
